Choose one of the articles listed below, and write a critical review of its methodology. More specifically, evaluate the articles:
(1) Argument and research question and choice of method. Here you outline the main research question(s) investigated in the article and evaluate its relation to the theory and research literature presented in the article. In addition, you evaluate the author’s choice of methodology to answer the research question.
(2) Data collection. Here you clarify the main features of the research design employed, critiquing the justification provided by the author for the choice of sampling, material selection, and data collection material. This should not be a repeat of limitations acknowledged by the authors. Evaluate the main strengths and weaknesses of the design.
(3) Analysis and findings. Here you identify the analytical method used and provide a critical commentary on the author’s interpretation of findings and the relation of the findings to the original research question and methodology. You are expected to do this to the extent of your ability; you might not have the full statistical knowledge to understand all the weaknesses, but you should at the very least discuss potential issues that you spot.
(4) Recommendations. Conclude the essay with brief recommendations on how the methodology of this study could be improved and/or how this field of research could be methodologically developed in future empirical work.
(5) For all of the points outlined above you are expected to refer to the methodological literature to back up your claims about the strengths and the weaknesses of the research in the paper that you are discussing.
