The purpose of genograms is to review how personal history and people, existing support systems, or events may influence the client’s care, whether environmentally, physically, emotionally, or biologically.
For this activity, you are to create a genogram of your family (you may use another family, but it’s fun to learn about yourself) and looking for patterns in the relationships among family members. The links provided below help explain how to do this. Draw your genogram either by hand, or you can use any word processing program to create graphics. Look for patterns of relationships in your family, and think about how these patterns have affected you/the chosen family.
