How do you identify a community leader?

Community leaders are responsible for the welfare, and development of their communities. Many community leaders take it upon themselves to take charge within a community because changes need to be made. Others such as councilmen of a specific ward within a community may be voted in by the community because they feel this individual can make contributions that will improve the well-being of the community. In addition, working with local organizations can provide resources that lead individuals to community leaders or help determine who they are within the community (Mishra et al., 2017). Moreover, additional approaches that can identify a community leader is through a position which one upholds, reputation, event analysis, and social participation (Mishra et al., 2017).

Examples of types of community leaders in public health and characteristics of effective leadership used at my practicum site.

There are several community leaders and organizations who help shape public health and tackle challenges that may arise. First and foremost, we have our state and local officials who provide reliable information to the public as necessary. Next, there are the many public health practitioners and organizations such as the Association of state and Territorial Health Official, the National Association and County, and City Health Officials, and Big Cities and Health Coalitions to name a few (Hwang, 2021). In addition, every health commissioner, health officer, and political commentator who helps inform and address public health challenges play a key role in the public health system. Moreover, characteristics of effective community leadership for my practicum must include strong communication and listening skills, empathy and understanding, the ability to motivate, inspire and provide innovation to think outside box to provide solutions to old and new developing problems.
