*You will be asked to read and apply 3 different texts (I will provide notes for one of the texts so you dont have to read it)+CRITICAL RACE THEORY to support the thesis * For this paper, I want to analyze the experience of transgender women of color within educational spaces and propose ways that schools can better assist them. I want to really focus on intersectionality and how an increase in marginalized identities (ie. not just being a woman of color, but a trans woman of color) results in an increased vulnerability to adversity, focusing on the specific structures that make it difficult for students of these identities to have access to and succeed in educational spaces.
Essentially, my ideal approach is to layer and combine my findings and analysis. First, make a commentary on how hegemonic masculinity negatively affects women in education. Then, using CRITICAL RACE THEORY, present the role of race in education to focus on the experiences of women of color. Finally, propose my main focus, addressing cisnormativity and how schooling disregards transgender women of color, individuals who are caught in the intersection of many oppressed identities and experience that hardship that was previously mentioned in the preceding two sections. Finish the paper by proposing ways that schools better assist those who belong to this specific community.
