After reading the Flynn article located in your required reading for this unit, you will create an article critique in which you will summarize the contents of the article and respond to the following questions:

• What is the author’s main point?
• Who is the author’s intended audience?
• Do the author’s arguments support the main point?
• Why is it important to involve U.S. citizens in the development of a homeland security strategy for counterterrorism? How can the U.S. federal government encourage citizens to become a part of the homeland security strategy?

For this discussion, you will need to do some outside reading about Cyntoia Brown.

There are a few components that we could question that contributed to the original sentencing of Cyntoia Brown. What elements do you think contributed to her sentencing? Would it be different if it were a male or a woman who was wealthy? Critically think about this case and combine it with Feminist theories.

Do you think that a wealthy woman who commits a crime should be sentenced any different than the a poor woman who commits a crime?

People grow up hearing friends’ and family members’ stories about events that influenced their lives in powerful ways. You may have also told similar tales in order to share from your experiences with others. This is narrative learning, and it plays an important role in teaching people about the world in which they live. In this Assignment, you will become more familiar with your own learning by examining and sharing a narrative story about one of your experiences. You also consider how narrative learning may impact your practice as an adult educator.

For this Assignment, think back throughout your life and remember the narrative stories that you heard—ones about your family, your friends, and yourself. Choose one that you learned from and that has affected you in your adult life.
