According to census data, over one-third of Texas residents are Hispanic, and a majority of them are liberal in their ideologies. In your opinion, why hasn’t the Democratic Party been more successful in statewide and local elections? Texas’s electoral voters haven’t gone to a Democratic presidential candidate since Jimmy Carter won the state in 1976. No Democrat has won a statewide election since 1994, the same year Governor Ann Richards lost to George W. Bush. In my opinion, the Democratic Party hasn’t been more successful in statewide and local elections because they enforce several restrictions for people with color and women. With that being said twenty six percent of Latinos are composed in Texas electorates but their vote doesn’t really make an impact because majority of votes are from whites and African Americans that vote republican. Hispanics being populated as over one third of Texas’s population, not all are citizens of the U.S making them ineligible to vote. Hispanic residents of our state are much more likely to identify as white than Hispanic residents of cities elsewhere in the county. With roots many generation deep in lands that were annexed from Mexican control to that of the U.S., many also actively reject being cast as immigrants. In 2020 ignorance of these facts embarrassed state and nation Democrats. The 2021 elections were a clear repudiation of the Biden administration’s handling of major domestic issues, the national Democratic agenda and the growing influence of progressivism within the party. The platform of the Democratic Party of the united states is generally based on American liberalism, contrasting with the conservatism of the Republic Party. Democrat’s main platforms seek to promote social programs, labor unions, consumer protection, workplace safety regulations, equal opportunity, racial equality.
